La finalidad del presente trabajo es explorar la poesía performativa de la autora puertorriqueña Mariposa (María Teresa Fernández) desde una perspectiva cultural y traductológica. Por un lado, pretendo abordar este género como un género híbrido en el marco de una literatura menor en términos de Deleuze y Guattari ([1975] 1990), es decir, una literatura cuyo portavoz se posiciona desde una biculturalidad y un bilingüismo impuestos por una cultura mayoritaria. Mariposa, al igual que otras autoras puertorriqueñas, se inserta en un espacio intersticial en el que vive una situación de doble marginación, por los <em>gringos</em> y por los <em>nativos</em> de la isla de Puerto Rico. En uno de sus poemas, “Ode to the Diasporican” ([1993] 2011), que fuera al mismo tiempo titulado “Pa’ mi gente”, nos dice: “Mira a mi cara Puertorriqueña / Mi pelo vivo / Mis manos morenas / Mira a mi corazón que se llena de orgullo / Y dime que no soy boricua”. Por otro lado, propongo abordar su obra desde el concepto de traducción intersemiótica, por el trasvase de un código verbal a uno no verbal (Roman Jakobson, 1959); y desde el concepto de autotraducción propuesto por Helena Tanqueiro (1999), no sólo en términos lingüísticos sino también semióticos. Interpelar la obra de Mariposa desde la traductología, a su vez, se condice con el nuevo curso que han tomado los Estudios de Traducción, lo que Arduini y Nergaard (2011) denominan los <em>posestudios de traducción</em>. En sus propias palabras, “a sort of new era […] where translation is viewed as fundamentally transdisciplinary, mobile, and open ended” (p. 8).

Este proyecto pretende profundizar en el estudio de las representaciones estéticas actuales de las comunidades del Caribe anglófono, Puerto Rico y chicana, todas atravesadas por la lengua inglesa como lengua oficial. El objetivo central reside en indagar cómo se articula esta lengua oficial como expresión de las relaciones de poder y como medio de representación de identidades individuales y comunitarias. Esto implica también analizar su ensamble o existencia paralela y conjugada con otras lenguas minoritarias, concebidas como malas lenguas. Partiendo del análisis de textos literarios como zonas de contacto, se analizarán las representaciones de experiencias individuales y comunitarias en contextos marcados por diferentes culturas y jerarquizaciones culturales resultantes de relaciones de poder. Incluimos en el espectro de zonas de contacto cultural al texto en sus aspectos formales como estructuración ideológica; los espacios de contacto culturales, lingüísticos, de género, entre otros, que entreteje; y la traducción de las obras a otras lenguas, entendiendo a la traducción como traducción cultural o, más específicamente en términos de Édouard Glissant, como un acto de Relación. La investigación se abordará desde diversas perspectivas teórico-críticas localizadas y el corpus de análisis se concentrará en formas narrativas diversas y poesía, incluyendo formas discursivas estéticas en situación de hibridación, reciclamiento de formatos consagrados desde lugares subalternos, y formas de representación que recurran a estrategias o formatos característicos de la tradición oral u oralitura. El trabajo relacionado a la traducción se concentrará en publicaciones en castellano de autores de las comunidades seleccionadas, focalizando en particular estrategias y políticas de traducción.<br /><br />

<p text="" align="justify">ABSTRACT<br />As explained by Aleida Assman, the last two decades of the 20th century saw the development and consolidation of memory research, a diverse field including “neuronal, medical, and psychological as well as literary, cultural, social, and political studies” that investigate “how we live by our memories, how we are haunted by them, how we use and abuse them” (210). The boom in memory studies results from a widespread interest in the revisiting of the past generated, among other factors, by the postcolonial situation in which humans that have been deprived of their indigenous history and culture are trying to (re)write their own narratives and memories (210-211). The present thesis centers on the Anglophone Caribbean – where formal colonialism began to disappear in the 1960s – and aims at exploring the construction of memory as represented in a selection of three novels published by Caribbean women writers in the 21st century. These are Elizabeth Nunez’s <em>Prospero’s Daughter</em> (2006), Andrea Levy’s <em>The Long Song</em> (2010) and Joanne Hillhouse’s <em>Oh Gad!</em> (2012). The initial hypothesis of this study is that, in the corpus under consideration, memory is represented as a contact zone permeated by struggles between cultures in asymmetrical power relations. It is creatively constructed in multiple spaces and practices, and results from the attempt to (re)write Caribbean identities. In relation to the theoretical background supporting the analysis, this study is grounded in a selection of categories which includes Michel Foucault’s and Anibal Quijano’s theories of power, both based on the conception of power as a dynamic relationship involving conflict and struggle –, Mary Louise Pratt’s definition of the contact zone and Stuart Hall’s theories of cultural identities in general, and of Caribbean cultural identities in particular. The discussion of memory is anchored in Halbwachs’ concept of collective memory, Nora’s definition of the <em>lieux de memoire</em>, Jan Assman’s distinction between communicative and cultural memory, and Paul Ricoeur’s analysis of the pragmatic dimension of memory, among others.</p>
