<em>IPAgraphy</em> is a practice booklet designed to help you improve your phonetic transcription. By focusing on how each IPA symbol is written, you will develop greater accuracy and confidence when representing English sounds. Step by step, you will learn to notice details, avoid common mistakes, and build clear, consistent transcriptions.<br />This booklet was developed by the Diction team of <em>Introducción a la Lengua Inglesa</em> for students in the English Teacher Training and Translation programmes at Facultad de Lenguas, Universidad Nacional del Comahue.
<span>Este cuadernillo fue elaborado por el equipo de cátedra de la materia <em>Introducción a la Lengua Inglesa</em> de la Facultad de Lenguas de la Universidad Nacional del Comahue. Se centra en el uso del Alfabeto Fonético Internacional (IPA). El término “IPAgraphy” fue creado específicamente para este material y significa “caligrafía de los símbolos fonéticos del IPA”. El objetivo del booklet es ayudar a los estudiantes a familiarizarse con una transcripción clara y precisa de los símbolos fonéticos. </span>

Esta ponencia aborda la enseñanza de la pronunciación desde el marco del inglés como lengua franca, destacando la necesidad de superar modelos centrados en hablantes nativos. Revisa propuestas teóricas relevantes, especialmente el "Lingua Franca Core" (Jenkins, 1998, 2000, 2002), que identifica rasgos fonológicos imprescindibles para garantizar la inteligibilidad internacional. Presenta tanto aspectos segmentales (consonantes, vocales, aspiración, grupos consonánticos) como suprasegmentales (acentuación nuclear, tonicalidad) que inciden en la comunicación efectiva entre hablantes no nativos. Asimismo, propone actividades didácticas para el aula orientadas a la toma de conciencia, la práctica de la inteligibilidad y la adaptación de materiales existentes. Finalmente, concluye que la pronunciación constituye un componente esencial para reducir esfuerzos de procesamiento, mejorar la producción y favorecer la comprensión mutua en contextos internacionales.

<em>Introducción:</em> <br />El mundo globalizado de hoy ha afectado la educación en general y la enseñanza de segundas lenguas en particular, dando lugar al auge de la pluriculturalidad en el aula. El contexto áulico es el reflejo de una sociedad con una realidad pluricultural en la que los individuos intercambian aspectos culturales en armonía, tolerancia y respeto mutuo frente a las desigualdades. Las diferencias culturales que subyacen en el input lingüístico son una fuente motivadora para el aprendizaje de una segunda lengua. Un ambiente seguro y culturalmente rico posibilita que los estudiantes se focalicen también en rasgos de la pronunciación de la lengua meta y alcancen, así, una comunicación eficaz. A partir del siglo veinte se comenzó a tratar la fonología en el aula de L2 a través de la corrección explícita y de prácticas mecánicas. Con el auge del enfoque comunicativo, la lengua comenzó a considerarse como una herramienta para la comunicación (Celce-Murcia, Brinton y Goodwin, 2011). La pronunciación cobraba importancia en la medida en que se tornaba indispensable para lograr un mensaje inteligible, evitando así un quiebre en la comunicación. Sin embargo, el correcto aprendizaje del repertorio segmental y suprasegmental se asociaba a un fenómeno de ósmosis, sin necesidad de desviar la atención del alumno hacia este aspecto del lenguaje. En la década de 1990, la enseñanza centrada en la forma comenzó a tener un lugar significativo (Skehan, 1998; Willis y Willis, 1996; Ellis, 1992 y Zanon, 1995). Iruela (2007) observa que es inadecuado suponer que el aprendizaje de una segunda lengua es inconsciente. El docente debe recurrir a la concientización y reflexión por parte del alumno para lograr una internalización efectiva de la L2. Partiendo de esta premisa, es necesario concientizar al alumno de las características fonéticas y fonológicas de la lengua meta. En suma, se cree que en la enseñanza de español como lengua extranjera (ELE) la pronunciación se puede y se debe abordar didácticamente en el aula. Este trabajo se focalizará en los rasgos segmentales, específicamente los sonidos consonánticos, ya que estos pueden ocasionar mayores dificultades en la comunicación oral. En primer lugar se presentarán las consonantes de los sistemas fonológicos del inglés (variedad del sudeste de Inglaterra) y del español rioplatense, para lo cual se tendrán en cuenta los inventarios de consonantes y sus realizaciones en contexto. Posteriormente se compararán ambos sistemas para predecir las dificultades de los anglófonos a la hora de pronunciar el español. Se propone la pluriculturalidad en el aula como marco propicio para el desarrollo fonológico. En relación con las fases de aprendizaje se siguen los lineamientos de Mendelsohn (1994) y Mendelsohn y Rubin (1995). Una vez culminado el abordaje teórico del tema, se presentará una serie de actividades basadas en la cultura argentina para ayudar al estudiante de español a adquirir y desarrollar rasgos fonológicos de la L2.

La pronunciación cobraba importancia en la medida en que se tornaba indispensable para lograr un mensaje inteligible, evitando así un quiebre en la comunicación. Sin embargo, el correcto aprendizaje del repertorio segmental y suprasegmental se asociaba a un fenómeno de ósmosis, sin necesidad de desviar la atención del alumno hacia este aspecto del lenguaje. En la década de 1990, la enseñanza centrada en la forma comenzó a tener un lugar significativo (Skehan, 1998; Willis y Willis, 1996; Ellis, 1992 y Zanon, 1995). Iruela (2007) observa que es inadecuado suponer que el aprendizaje de una segunda lengua es inconsciente. El docente debe recurrir a la concientización y reflexión por parte del alumno para lograr una internalización efectiva de la L2. Partiendo de esta premisa, es necesario concientizar al alumno de las características fonéticas y fonológicas de la lengua meta. En suma, se cree que en la enseñanza de español como lengua extranjera (ELE) la pronunciación se puede y se debe abordar didácticamente en el aula. Este trabajo se focalizará en los rasgos segmentales, específicamente los sonidos consonánticos, ya que estos pueden ocasionar mayores dificultades en la comunicación oral. En primer lugar se presentarán las consonantes de los sistemas fonológicos del inglés (variedad del sudeste de Inglaterra) y del español rioplatense, para lo cual se tendrán en cuenta los inventarios de consonantes y sus realizaciones en contexto. Posteriormente se compararán ambos sistemas para predecir las dificultades de los anglófonos a la hora de pronunciar el español. Se propone la pluriculturalidad en el aula como marco propicio para el desarrollo fonológico. En relación con las fases de aprendizaje se siguen los lineamientos de Mendelsohn (1994) y Mendelsohn y Rubin (1995). Una vez culminado el abordaje teórico del tema, se presentará una serie de actividades basadas en la cultura argentina para ayudar al estudiante de español a adquirir y desarrollar rasgos fonológicos de la L2.
