La lectura de artículos científicos en lengua extranjera (LE) inglés es una actividad de suma importancia en la vida universitaria. Sin embargo, dicho género presenta numerosas dificultades para su abordaje por parte de los estudiantes, originadas principalmente en el hecho de que son textos producidos por especialistas y dirigidos a especialistas para comunicar resultados de investigaciones acerca de temas de especialidad. Ahora bien, de todas las secciones que conforman el artículo científico (AC), la introducción ha recibido especial atención en los estudios realizados en el marco del análisis del género, en particular dentro de la línea del Inglés con Fines Específicos. Entre ellos, se destacan los trabajos realizados por Swales (1990, 2004), quien ha propuesto un modelo denominado CARS (Create A Research Space) para el análisis de la macroestructura del AC, en particular de la introducción. Si bien este modelo explica de manera efectiva la organización retórica de la introducción de los AC, varias investigaciones han determinado la presencia de variaciones interdisciplinares. Debido a que, hasta el momento, no se conocen estudios de este tipo en la disciplina del Turismo, el objetivo del presente trabajo será relevar la macroestructura de las introducciones de un corpus de AC de la disciplina siguiendo el modelo CARS (2004). Se espera que los resultados de este estudio, además de contribuir al conocimiento que se tiene acerca de la macroestructura de las introducciones de los AC en diferentes disciplinas, aporten datos que enriquezcan las prácticas pedagógicas en los cursos de LE inglés con fines académicos en el nivel universitario, en especial en las carreras relacionadas con el Turismo. Abstract Reading research articles (RA) in English is an activity of the utmost importance in university life. However, this genre poses numerous difficulties for university students, mainly due to the fact that they are texts produced by specialists and aimed at specialists to communicate research results on specialty topics. Now, of all the sections that make up the RA, the introduction has received special attention in the studies carried out within the framework of genre analysis, particularly within the line of English for Specific Purposes. Swales, (1990, 2004) proposed a model called CARS (Create A Research Space) for the analysis of the RA macrostructure, in particular of the introductory section. Although this model effectively explains the rhetorical organization of the introduction of RAs, several investigations have determined the presence of interdisciplinary variations. Due to the fact that, so far, no studies of this type are known in the discipline of Tourism, the objective of this work will be to survey the macrostructure of the introductions of a corpus of RAs of this discipline following the CARS model (2004). It is expected that the results of this study, in addition to contributing to the existing knowledge about the macrostructure of RA introductions in different disciplines, can provide data that enrich pedagogical practices in university courses of English for academic purposes, especially in tourism-related careers.
