A summary of the resource.
<em>IPAgraphy</em> is a practice booklet designed to help you improve your phonetic transcription. By focusing on how each IPA symbol is written, you will develop greater accuracy and confidence when representing English sounds. Step by step, you will learn to notice details, avoid common mistakes, and build clear, consistent transcriptions.<br />This booklet was developed by the Diction team of <em>Introducción a la Lengua Inglesa</em> for students in the English Teacher Training and Translation programmes at Facultad de Lenguas, Universidad Nacional del Comahue.
<span>Este cuadernillo fue elaborado por el equipo de cátedra de la materia <em>Introducción a la Lengua Inglesa</em> de la Facultad de Lenguas de la Universidad Nacional del Comahue. Se centra en el uso del Alfabeto Fonético Internacional (IPA). El término “IPAgraphy” fue creado específicamente para este material y significa “caligrafía de los símbolos fonéticos del IPA”. El objetivo del booklet es ayudar a los estudiantes a familiarizarse con una transcripción clara y precisa de los símbolos fonéticos. </span>

Exploring Listening Comprehension Problems as Perceived by Advanced EFL Learners

This work aims at exploring possible causes for ESI English IV students’ listening comprehension feeling of failure when exposed to the foreign language. With this in mind, we have administered a survey to thirty seven advanced students in an attempt to gain a broader understanding of their own perceptions in connection with possible instances of comprehension failure when listening. Basically, results have helped us identify 5 main areas of trouble whose range goes from the impossibility of distinguishing among the sounds of the foreign language to the incapability of thinking ahead or predicting. An array of listening strategies has been proposed in an effort to start devising a probable way to enhance these students’ listening performance. In an outgrowth of this study to be developed in the near future that has been conceived in compensation for some weaknesses of the present preliminary study, we have planned to conduct interviews with 10 subjects of our research population and design an experiment to work with listening strategies in<br />more depth.

<p align="justify">En este trabajo discutimos que las propiedades semánticas de los nombres permiten desentrañar la estructura e interpretación correcta de secuencias nominales en inglés pertenecientes al campo disciplinar de las ingenierías que presentan la forma [ANN]. Este tipo de sintagmas aparece con altísima frecuencia en los textos que son utilizados como material de lectura en los cursos de lectocomprensión en inglés para estudiantes universitarios y su interpretación suele representar para ellos un verdadero desafío. Para la discusión de los datos recurrimos a elementos de la teoría del Léxico Generativo (Pustejovsky, 1995), un enfoque para el cual el léxico tienen un rol central en el conocimiento lingüístico. A partir del análisis realizado sugerimos criterios para el tratamiento didáctico de estas secuencias nominales basados en los grados de dificultad que pueden presentar para los estudiantes.</p>
