<p><strong>Introduction</strong><br />One line of enquiry of our research project is advanced Argentinian EFL students’ use of formulaic sequences. In this paper we analyse typical sequences learners resort to in their essays and characterise their use as compared to the one found in native corpora like the BNC and Davies’ (2008) Corpus of American Contemporary English (COCA Academic Sub-corpus). First, the theoretical framework is presented. The study is then described in terms of its objectives, the corpus characteristics and its analysis and the sequences selected. The findings are detailed around the different sequences involving the three nouns (EFFECT, IMPACT and INFLUENCE) which lexically signal the effect in a reason-result semantic relation. Learner use is explored and characterised through concordance lines obtained from the learner corpus. On the basis of these results some pedagogical inferences are drawn that may contribute to the development of advanced learners’ formulaic competence.</p>

<p align="justify">Décadas de estudios de corpus sobre el uso del lenguaje confirman que el lenguaje se compone en gran medida de lenguaje prefabricado o formulaico (Erman y Warren, 2000), es decir, de combinaciones de frases que se emplean para transmitir un mismo mensaje denominadas ‘secuencias formulaicas’ (SSFF) (Wray, 2002) que cumplen diversas funciones comunicativas en un idioma. Esta visión del léxico en general señala que la enseñanza del vocabulario en una L2 (extranjera o segunda) debe focalizarse no ya en ítems léxicos individuales sino en estas secuencias frecuentes. Surge así una nueva pedagogía necesaria para contribuir a la percepción en el input de estas cadenas de palabras por parte de los aprendientes y fomentar su práctica y uso cotidiano. Boers y Lindstromberg (2012) resumen numerosas investigaciones que demuestran el mayor impacto de la instrucción explícita de SSFF en la adquisición de estas unidades de significado por sobre un abordaje implícito. Estudios experimentales como Fernández y Valcarce (2017) y Zinkgraf y Verdú (2017) señalan los beneficios de la metodología de enfoque en la forma a la enseñanza de SSFF en futuros docentes de inglés como lengua extranjera en su reconocimiento y en producción guiada y espontánea. Este trabajo describe una propuesta de enseñanza explícita de vocabulario basada en secuencias formulaicas y presenta los objetivos y procedimientos para explorar la adquisición de SSFF de canciones y leyendas en estudiantes de inglés de escuelas de nivel primario en Argentina. Se discuten los fundamentos teóricos que subyacen el diseño de materiales para esta experiencia piloto.<br /><br /><em>Abstract</em></p>
<p align="justify">More than three decades of studies in corpus linguistics confirm that language use is composed to a great extent of prefabricated or formulaic language (Erman & Warren 2000), that is, of combinations of phrases used to convey the same message. These phrases, called ‘formulaic sequences’ (FSs) by Wray (2002) recurrently fulfill a set of communicative functions in language. This shifting perspective of the lexicon in general suggests that the teaching of a foreign (or second) language needs to focus not on individual lexical items but on these frequent sequences. A new approach is necessary to contribute to learners’ noticing of these strings of words in the input to later encourage their practice and use. Boers & Lindstromberg (2012) summarise several investigations that prove the significant impact of the explicit teaching of these units of meaning on FS acquisition over more implicit methodologies. Experimental studies like Fernández & Valcarce (2017) and Zinkgraf & Verdú (2017) point to the advantages of a Focus on Form approach to the teaching of FSs with respect to recognition and controlled and spontaneous production in groups of EFL teachers-to-be. This paper presents the objectives and procedures to explore the acquisition of FSs found in songs and legends by younger primary-school learners of English while describing the underlying principles of the pedagogical materials designed for that research experience.</p>

<p text="" align="justify">En el presente trabajo se describen los diferentes contextos en los que tiene lugar la concordancia inesperada en español (anotenlon) y se discuten las principales propuestas de análisis sobre este fenómeno. La mayoría de los datos recopilados escapan a las explicaciones sugeridas hasta el momento, ya que ilustran que es posible encontrar todas las posibilidades lógicas para la ocurrencia de la -n enclítica y, además, que el copiado/desplazamiento de la morfología de concordancia se produce también con la primera persona del plural, aunque de manera parcial (anotemoslon).<br /><br />ABSTRACT<br />In this paper, we describe the different linguistic contexts in which unexpected verbal morphology can be found in Spanish dialects and we discuss the main proposals for this phenomenon. Most of the data we present here, which belong to different dialects, are not explained by the research developed so far, because the examples show that all the logic possibilities for the occurrence of enclitic -n can be observed. Moreover, the copy/displacement of agreement morphology also takes place with the first plural person, although it happens in a partial way.</p>

<p align="justify">Tradicionalmente las clases de verbos se enseñan teniendo en cuenta sólo la facultad de seleccionar un complemento o no. Esta forma de enseñarlos enfrenta al alumno a la dificultosa tarea de tener que memorizar una extensa lista de patrones verbales. A esta dificultad se le suma la cantidad de casos que escapan a la regla general. Este aprendizaje memorístico se caracteriza por ser automático y poco sistematizado. A modo de ejemplo Hornby (1985) en <em>Guide to Patterns and Usage in English</em> enumera subgrupos de verbos transitivos seguidos de frase sustantiva, frase preposicional, oración finita o no finita, y sus posibles combinaciones en un listado. Este listado no siempre le permite al alumno entender porqué un verbo transitivo selecciona un determinado tipo de complemento y no otro.</p>

<p>(3) She enjoys [playing tennis].</p>
<p>(4) She couldn’t decide [what to do next].</p>

<p align="justify">Los profesores de gramática enfrentamos el desafío de tener que sistematizar - de manera económica y práctica - clasificaciones verbales del tipo presentado anteriormente. Un posible camino a seguir es presentar en primer lugar los verbos según su carga semántica, es decir un verbo pleno describe un evento, ya sea una actividad, un proceso o un estado (adaptación de la clasificación de Vendler, 1957). Para expresar un evento y de acuerdo con la Teoría Temática (Chomsky, 1981, 1986a, 1986b, Chomsky y Lasnik 1991), un verbo selecciona un determinado número y tipo de participante o argumento. De este modo, la enseñanza de los verbos teniendo en cuenta la carga semántica y el número de argumentos que estos seleccionan reduce la clasificación a dos grandes tipos: transtitivos e intransitivos.</p>

<p align="justify">Este trabajo presenta el avance del proyecto de investigación Alfabetización Académica y Tipologías Textuales en la Enseñanza del Inglés para la Traducción (2018-2021), cuyos objetivos son elaborar un corpus con textos auténticos en lengua inglesa y proponer materiales didácticos que favorezcan la alfabetización académica (AA) de los estudiantes en la L2. Tanto el proyecto J031 como el presente trabajo se encuadran en el marco teóricometodológico de la alfabetización académica (principalmente en los aportes del movimiento Writing Across the Curriculum), la Teoría de Género y el enfoque del inglés con propósitos específicos para la enseñanza de inglés en el traductorado.<br />En cuanto a los resultados obtenidos hasta el momento, la discusión se centra en los beneficios que ofrece la utilización de un corpus de textos auténticos para el desarrollo de las competencias académica y traductora de los estudiantes, así como en la presentación de dos elementos para el análisis del corpus: una herramienta de clasificación y una taxonomía para la anotación de los textos. Como conclusiones preliminares, se espera que este trabajo contribuya a incrementar las estrategias traductoras de los estudiantes y a consolidar los vínculos entre la teoría, la práctica, la investigación en AA y la formación de traductores.</p>
<p align="justify"><strong>Abstract</strong><br />This work discusses the progress of Research Project J031, Alfabetización Académica y Tipologías Textuales en la Enseñanza del Inglés para la Traducción (2018-2021), whose aims are the compilation of an English-language authentic-text corpus for the design of didactic materials to advance translation students’ academic competences in English. The theoretical-methodological framework of this work, like that of the Project J031, is anchored in Academic Literacy (AL) studies (largely Bazerman’s Writing Across the Curriculum movement), Genre Theory, and the conception of teaching English in translator training as English for Specific Purposes.<br />A discussion of the findings so far accounts for the benefits of the elaboration of a corpus of authentic texts for the development of learners’ AL and translation competence; and presents two elements for the analysis of the corpus: a classification tool and a taxonomy for text annotation. As preliminary conclusions, it is hoped this work contributes to the enhancement of students’ translation strategies and to the strengthening of links between theory, practice and research in AL and translator training.</p>

<p align="justify">This presentation discusses the principles underlying a battery of tests designed to measure the acquisition of vocabulary in terms of formulaic sequences (FSs) in EFL primary school children participating in an explicit instruction research experience (Wray, 2002). Examples of different testing activity types to measure both receptive and productive knowledge of FSs are analysed in relation to noticing, retrieval and generative use in test development with implications for both EFL teaching and research. <br /><br /><em>Summary</em></p>
<p align="justify">Formulaic sequences (FSs) are frequently encountered strings of words that typically convey specific meanings and functions and are retrieved as wholes by native speakers of a language (Wray, 2002). Research into foreign language teaching (Boers & Lindstromberg, 2012; Wood, 2015) nowadays advocates FS-focused instruction in the classroom, optimizing learners’ FL acquisition through detection, retrieval and creative use (Lindstromberg & Boers, 2008; Pellicer-Sánchez & Boers, 2019).</p>
<p>Our research project analyzes the effect of teaching FSs in songs and legends to EFL public primary school students with an A1 proficiency level (CEFR) and assesses FS acquisition through a battery of tests designed to measure both receptive and productive knowledge of the target sequences (Gyllstad & Schmitt, 2019). Test results serve a two-fold purpose in the teaching and the research domains: to assess the learning of FSs in children with nearly no prior EFL instruction - and none in terms of formulaic language- and to gauge the effects of an explicit, focus-on form pedagogical intervention on their learning through different task-types assessing to what degree the target sequences are recognised and/or used productively over an extended period of time (nine to ten months).</p>
<p align="justify">This presentation will analyse examples of different testing activity types in relation to noticing, retrieval and generative use (Lindstromberg & Boers, 2008) and the principles in test development (Hughes, 1996; Read & Nation, 2004; Lewis, 2009) to show how language research and teaching are intrinsically conjoined. This research will provide applied linguists and teachers with information on learners’ vocabulary intake at different stages, and offer insights into participants’ formulaic competence development which can feed back into the EFL classroom.</p>

<p text="" align="justify">La denominada concordancia <em>ad sensum</em> es uno de los fenómenos más llamativos en español y otras lenguas. En este trabajo nos proponemos demostrar que este tipo de concordancia puede explicarse por medio de mecanismos vinculados con los mismos factores que intervienen en la concordancia general, i. e., la estructura sintáctica y las operaciones morfológicas. Nuestra investigación se enmarca en el modelo de la Morfología Distribuida (Halle y Marantz 1993) y busca dar cuenta de las concordancias alternantes y del bloqueo de tal alternancia en determinados contextos, a partir de un análisis detallado de la estructura del Sintagma de Determinante y de los rasgos involucrados en las proyecciones funcionales del ámbito nominal.</p>
ABSTRACT <br />
<p text="" align="justify">The so-called <em>ad sensum</em> agreement is one of the most significant phenomena in Spanish and other languages. In this paper, we attempt to prove that this kind of agreement can be explained by the mechanisms related to the same factors involved in general agreement, i. e., the syntactic structure and the morphological operations. Our investigation is framed in Distributed Morphology (Halle y Marantz <a id="rid_j_shll-2016-0007_ref_024" href="https://www.degruyter.com/view/j/shll.2016.9.issue-1/shll-2016-0007/shll-2016-0007.xml#j_shll-2016-0007_ref_024" class="xref">1993</a>) and it pretends to explain the alternating agreement and the blocking of this alternation in particular contexts, by analyzing, in detail, the structure of the Determiner Phrase and the features involved in the functional projections of the nominal scope.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">En este trabajo se analizan las propiedades temáticas y eventivas de las semi-cópulas quedar y quedarse. Se demuestra que no son dos ítems lexicales separados sino una raíz cuyo contexto sintáctico impone distintas estructuras temáticas y eventivas. Basados en la clasificación aspectual de Vendler (1967) y de Pustejovsky (1995), se ofrece una descripción aspectual de la semi-cópula y se demuestra que puede aparecer tanto en construcciones estativas como en transicionales. en ambos casos, puede aparecer el clítico se, el cual se relaciona con la noción de causa interna (Levin y Rappaport Hovav 1995). Para el análisis se recurre a la propuesta de Travis (2005), que postula la articulación de las vPs. este trabajo se inscribe en las propuestas sintactistas debido a que desde una perspectiva lexicalista, se perdería la posibilidad de capturar y explicar generalizaciones en términos de la estructura sintáctica, en especial, de la estructura funcional/eventiva como responsable de la estructura temática.<br /><br />Abstract<br /><br />In this research work different thematic and aspectual properties of the semi-copula quedar and quedarse are analysed. It is shown that they are not two different and separate lexical items but only one root whose syntactic context imposes thematic and eventive structures. Using Vendler´s (1967) and Pustejovsky´s (1995) aspectual classification of predicates, a description is given of the aspectual possibilities of the semi-copula showing that it can appear both in locative and in transitional structures. The clitic se can appear in both cases, the claim being that it is related to the notion of internal cause (Levin y Rappaport Hovav 1995). as regards the analysis, Travis´s proposal (2005) of articulated vPs has been used. It is worth noting that this work offers a syntactic proposal as a lexical perspective would not allow to capture syntactic generalization in terms of syntactic structure, especially, the functional /eventive structure which is responsible of thematic structure.</p>

Para el análisis se recurre a la propuesta de Travis (2005), que postula la articulación de las vPs. este trabajo se inscribe en las propuestas sintactistas debido a que desde una perspectiva lexicalista, se perdería la posibilidad de capturar y explicar generalizaciones en términos de la estructura sintáctica, en especial, de la estructura funcional/eventiva como responsable de la estructura temática.<br /><br />Abstract<br /><br />In this research work different thematic and aspectual properties of the semi-copula quedar and quedarse are analysed. It is shown that they are not two different and separate lexical items but only one root whose syntactic context imposes thematic and eventive structures. Using Vendler´s (1967) and Pustejovsky´s (1995) aspectual classification of predicates, a description is given of the aspectual possibilities of the semi-copula showing that it can appear both in locative and in transitional structures. The clitic se can appear in both cases, the claim being that it is related to the notion of internal cause (Levin y Rappaport Hovav 1995). as regards the analysis, Travis´s proposal (2005) of articulated vPs has been used. It is worth noting that this work offers a syntactic proposal as a lexical perspective would not allow to capture syntactic generalization in terms of syntactic structure, especially, the functional /eventive structure which is responsible of thematic structure.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Debate about the acquisition of unaccusative verbs has centered on whether the structural properties of unaccusative verbs are known or if all intransitive verbs are treated as unergatives initially in different languages (Montrul 2005; Oshita 2001; Sorace 2000; Zobl 1989; among others). Within the Reasearch Project “Estructuras tempranas y tardías en Español como Lengua Materna” (J014) we have studied the acquisition of passive and unaccusative structures both in Spanish as an L1 and in English as an L2. The present study intends to show that L2 Spanish learners know the grammatical properties of unaccusative verbs and treat them as such. To this purpose in mind, an experiment of delayed repetition of a series of 11 pictures contained in a short story was carried out. The searcher told it to 5 adult students at Leiden University who have been learning Spanish for an average of 4 1/2 years (4 to 10 years). The results show that in all cases the subjects followed a constant pattern of response: they produced the expected verbs correctly and the difficulties evinced are of two types: lack of knowledge of the lexical item (verb) they had to use to describe the picture and the causativisation of some unaccusative verbs which are not compatible with this construction. These data seem to indicate that overall these learners know the structural properties of unaccusative verbs and the use of the clitic se with particular verbs – aparecer and nacer- is the syntactic reflex that shows the learners’ attempt to morphologically mark unaccusativity. Thus, to correct these errors, learners need more time to sharpen their knowledge of the specific idiosyncratic properties of certain verbs of different subclasses within the unaccusative class.</p>

The recognition and use of formulaic sequences or chunks allow them to enhance their productive and receptive skills. However, these learners usually struggle to develop their formulaic competence, especially if their teachers rely on a word-focused vocabulary teaching approach heavily. This paper presents some useful guidelines for crafting lesson plans based on legends and myths, designed for explicitly teaching formulaic sequences to young learners. </span></span></p>

En la corriente británica y estadounidense de estudios de diversas variedades del inglés, la lingüística de corpus (LC) ha acumulado numerosos volúmenes tales como Sinclair (1991), O’Keefe & McCarthy (2010) o McEnery & Hardie (2012), por mencionar sólo algunos, que les han permitido a los estudiosos del campo de la lingüística, investigar, de la mano de la informatización y el desarrollo de las ciencias de la computación, diferentes aspectos del lenguaje en uso en clave empírica. Introducción a la lingüística de corpus en español del reconocido lingüista Guillermo Rojo (GR de aquí en más) viene a cubrir la necesidad de contar con un número mayor de manuales introductorios que discutan temas transversales de la LC en la tradición hispanoparlante. Sin embargo, aquello que resulta novedoso desde un punto de vista de vacancia en la literatura de LC en español podría resultar limitado para expertos en la materia especializados en otras lenguas, debido a que esta obra se centra en el español.

<p align="justify">Este trabajo se inscribe en el marco del Proyecto de Investigación “Diferencias y puntos de contacto entre el discurso didáctico oral y el escrito en francés e inglés y su vinculación con la enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras”. Presentamos un estudio descriptivo y exploratorio de ciertas rutinas lingüísticas o fraseológicas que figuran en el discurso científico-académico pedagógico oral, particularmente en los géneros clase magistral y conferencia en el idioma francés. A nivel formal, estas construcciones constituyen enunciados recurrentes, a nivel semántico, cumplen diferentes funciones. Para tal fin hemos conformado un corpus de tres clases magistrales y cuatro conferencias en idioma francés, tomando como marco teórico de referencia el análisis multidimensional de Ciapuscio y Kugel (2002).</p>
<strong>Summary<br /></strong>
<p align="justify">This paper is part of the Research Project “Differences and contact points between oral didactic and written discourse in French and English and its relationship with the teaching of foreign languages”. We present a descriptive and exploratory study of cer-tain linguistic or phraseological routines that are present in the scientific-academic, peda-gogic, oral discourse, particularly in the following genres: master class and lectures in the French language. At a formal level, these constructions constitute recurrent statements Revue de la SAPFESU · Año XXXVIII, Número 43, 2020 · [62-72]63that at a semantic level fulfill different functions. Therefore, we have gathered a corpus of three master classes and four lectures in the French language. We have adopted as a reference theoretical framework the multidimensional approach by Ciapuscio and Kugel (2002).</p>

<p align="justify">Este trabajo se inscribe en el marco del Proyecto de Investigación “Diferencias y puntos de contacto entre el discurso didáctico oral y el escrito en francés e inglés y su vinculación con la enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras”. Presentamos un estudio descriptivo y exploratorio de ciertas rutinas lingüísticas o fraseológicas que figuran en el discurso científico-académico pedagógico oral, particularmente en los géneros clase magistral y conferencia en el idioma francés. A nivel formal, estas construcciones constituyen enunciados recurrentes, a nivel semántico, cumplen diferentes funciones. Para tal fin hemos conformado un corpus de tres clases magistrales y cuatro conferencias en idioma francés, tomando como marco teórico de referencia el análisis multidimensional de Ciapuscio y Kugel (2002).</p>
